The reason breathability depends on water repellency.
Breathable waterproof clothing is most likely to become wet and sweaty when used in damp or wet conditions. If the outer fabric absorbs water, the garment can lose up to 70% of its breathability. Therefore, to ensure comfort, the Durable Water Repellency (DWR) on your jacket's outer fabric must be maintained. Nikwax Tech Wash® will revitalize your garment's DWR and therefore its breathability.
Waterproof clothing needs to be breathable.
When we work hard, we sweat. Sweat evaporation cools us down and keeps us comfortable. However, when it rains, we want to avoid getting wet, so we wear waterproof outerwear to stay dry.
Waterproof fabric must allow moisture vapor to pass through, or 'breathe'; otherwise, our sweat can't evaporate, causing us to overheat and get wet from condensation. Furthermore, if your garment's outer fabric absorbs water and becomes 'wet,' its breathability is reduced, leaving you feeling damp and wet.

Use Nikwax Tech Wash® when your waterproof clothing and equipment absorbs water.
Your waterproof clothing and equipment may absorb water because their Durable Water Repellency (DWR) has been compromised by dirt or because they were cleaned with a conventional laundry detergent. Dirt attracts water, and household detergents leave behind a hydrophilic residue that causes the fabric to become 'wet' in wet or damp conditions.
If your waterproof clothing or equipment is relatively new or has recently been treated with Nikwax waterproofing, cleaning with Nikwax Tech Wash® not only removes contaminants like the dirt and residue left behind by household detergents, but also revitalizes the DWR.
Be sure to use the right product for your cleaning.
Conventional laundry detergents leave a hydrophilic residue that masks the Durable Water Repellency (DWR), causing fabrics to absorb water and become 'wet' in damp or wet conditions. Therefore, they should be avoided when cleaning waterproof clothing and equipment.
Products that claim to clean and waterproof simultaneously are often not very effective cleaners and can trap dirt. Use Nikwax Tech Wash ® to thoroughly clean your waterproof clothing and equipment safely, restoring DWR and breathability.
You don't need to re-waterproof it every time you clean it.
Regular cleaning will improve the performance of your equipment. With regular cleaning, you should be able to clean your equipment with Nikwax Tech Wash 5-6 times before it needs to be re-waterproofed. If Nikwax Tech Wash ® alone doesn't revitalize your equipment's Durable Water Repellency (DWR) (for example, if water doesn't bead up on the fabric surface), it's time to re-waterproof it using the appropriate Nikwax waterproofing agent.

Use Nikwax Tech Wash® in the washing machine.
To remove stubborn stains before washing, use pure Tech Wash® and a sponge or soft nylon brush. Remove all non-washable items. Rinse thoroughly before use. Follow the care label instructions. Do not use conventional detergents.
Remove any detergent residue from the detergent dispenser.
Place the items in the washing machine (maximum 2 items).
Use 150 ml for medium/hard water areas and 100 ml for 1-2 items in soft water areas.
Wash according to the care label.
If your kettle is limescale-resistant, you have hard water. For extremely hard water, use 200 ml.
Nikwax Tech Wash® can also be applied by hand.
